My second assignment in my portraiture class was an environmental portrait of an interesting person. I chose to photograph my friend Amy who owns a horse (which to me, is super interesting). The requirements for this assignment were restricting. The photo had to be taken in open shade or using north light, it also had to have a shallow depth of field and be produced in black and white. So naturally my thought process was, "ahhh!"
Luckily Amy and I had talked about shooting her portraits long before the assignment, so I knew I had a very willing and enthusiastic model. Lady on the other had was more concerned with the treats that were floating around to keep her attention (p.s. horses like licking reflectors, Lady was quite curious about my gold reflector at the beginning of the shoot). All in all I really enjoyed photographing Amy and trying my hand at photographing something larger than a dog. After this, I would love to continue photographing horses, they are such amazing creatures especially in motion! Thank you again Amy and Lady!
